SAMMY GYAMFI SHOULDN’T ACT AS AN ATHEIST BECAUSE OF POLITICS – Yaw Opoku Mensah, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education’s deputy spokesperson, Yaw Opoku Mensah has joined other session of Ghanaians to express his disenchantment with the response by the communications director for the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC with regard to the opinion shared by the former Methodist Bishop for Obuasi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu. He has described the utterance as untenable and absolute brainless.
In recent weeks, the man of God has been in the news media for his comment on the promise made by the former President of Ghana, H.E John Mahama that he will repeal the e-levy tax introduced by the NPP government if he comes to power in 2025. This didn’t go down well with the Methodist Bishop who made a reply that the former President shouldn’t act like a hypocrite and besides, he wouldn’t get the mandate to be president again to do as said.
Following his comments, scores of NDC supporters throng the social media to attack the man of God with no reflection on his status as the Bishop of the Church Methodist. In like manner, the Communications Director of the opposition NDC, Sammy Guamfi speaking on Okay Fm’s morning show with Kwame Nkrumah Tikesea added his voice by describing the Man of God as a “vile, unintelligent NPP propagandist in a cassock”. He further labelled the man of God as a psychiatric patient and a disgrace to the Methodist Church of Ghana.
Yaw Opoku Mensah, the deputy spokesperson for the ministry of education who happens to be a member of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Amakom Circuit where Bishop Ayensu is tge Superintendent Minister has taken his turn to respond accordingly to the chief linguist of the NDC. He surmises that the act plainly exemplifies an atheist.
“The whole world knows Sammy Gyamfi at a certain point in his political elements can become impermeable with reasons but this response is startlingly outrageous. His reaction that the Methodist Bishop is a “vile, unintelligent NPP propagandist in a cassock” is obsolete opprobrium, not against the man of God alone but the entire Methodist Church and Christianity as a religion” as said by Yaw Opoku Mensah.
He continued that, “Respect and honour have been two virtues that even the holy book emphatically gives recognition to and does not leave a little room for compromise. How then can a child with proper moral upbringing attack a man of God in that direction without fear or favour, isn’t it a recipe for an atheist who believes there is no God?” He quizzes.
In his last remarks, the Deputy Spokesperson earnestly implored the Christian Community and members of the Methodist Church of Ghana to treat the comment as a gross contempt because the light travels faster than the sound, that is why some people appear brighter until they speak.
Albert, the Methodist Church of Ghana has disassociated itself from the comments made by the Rev. Bishop, however, they couldn’t categorically condemn the act as inappropriate.
